County staff explained that on May 9, 2023 the county abandoned a section of Hightower Road, which terminated the county's easement over that right-of-way. Staff said the U.S. Air Force owns property on both sides of the abandoned section and has asked the county for a quitclaim deed conveying the abandoned right-of-way; a proposed deed and reference plat were attached to the packet.
A motion to approve the quitclaim deed was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Why it matters: Conveying abandoned right-of-way removes the county's residual claims and allows the property owner (the U.S. Air Force) to hold the parcel free of county easements. Staff had attached a resolution, drawing and aerial photo to the agenda packet.
Next steps: County staff will execute the quitclaim deed as approved by the board.
