Lowndes County transmits SPLOST 9 resolution for November ballot

"On August 4th, you all approved the SPLOST agreement. It has since been approved by all five of the cities," staff reported, and recommended the resolution be transmitted to election officials to finalize the referendum placement. Commissioners moved, seconded and authorized the chairman to sign the transmission documents; the motion carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) referenda authorize a one-cent local option sales tax for a package of capital projects. Transmitting the resolution is a procedural step required to place the referendum before voters.
Next steps: County staff will transmit the resolution to the Board of Elections and Secretary of State and continue to prepare ballot materials per state timelines.
