Middle school opens early; district approves parking-lot change order and preschool sale to Miami Township

At the Aug. 21 board meeting, district staff updated trustees on the new middle school and associated campus improvements. Jeff Johnson, business operations, said the building received a conditional certificate of occupancy and that contractors are finishing punch-list work; he estimated the East Parking Lot would be completed soon and noted remaining site tasks, including foundation removal and landscaping.
Trustees approved a change order to use project savings to build an East Parking Lot of roughly 105–110 spaces to relieve campus stacking and event parking needs. Staff described the scope as more than paving—work includes leveling, stormwater infrastructure, lighting poles and landscaping to meet township zoning requirements. Officials said the lot work would be funded from savings within the project and not require a draw from the general fund.
The board also approved a purchase agreement to sell the district’s preschool property to Miami Township. The district will sell the property "as is," and Miami Township will handle abatement or demolition work and decide reuse plans; the target closing date discussed was around Oct. 1.
Board members discussed traffic-flow concerns on Wolfen and State Route 131, possible added turn lanes and coordination with Clermont County for signal/turn-lane work. Staff said the East Parking Lot’s opening should improve stacking and that district administrators would continue to tweak on-campus traffic patterns after the lot opens.
The board additionally recognized staff and community partners who supported the opening and acknowledged principal Misty Goetz for a statewide award.
