Patterson Park playground, Old Fort field upgrades and Veterans Parkway work moving ahead

Parks staff gave a series of operations and capital project updates at the August meeting, announcing near-term openings and work under way.
Lynn told commissioners the Patterson Park parking lot is finished and staff expect to open a new playground and splash pad in September with a ribbon-cutting. Nate said the Old Fort Park ball field and parking improvement project is underway, with LED lighting installed and grading completed; staff expect an early-November completion and said the field will be synthetic turf.
Nate also briefed the commission on Veterans Parkway, describing mass grading and a 500-day construction period; staff said the contractor is taking aerial photos to document progress. Facilities staff member Brad Hennessy reported diagnostic work on Patterson Park roof leaks and said funds have been allocated for a full gym roof replacement this fall.
Commissioners commended staff for a busy summer of programming and the condition of city amenities; staff will return with final completion dates and ribbon-cutting arrangements.
