The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Commission voted to raise youth sports participation fees as staff warned that program delivery costs have risen since fees were last adjusted.
Staff member Michael McCafferty told the commission the base participation fee will rise from $65 to $80 and that activity fees will increase so that "it's a $25 increase overall for city residents, and then it would be an additional 15 for nonresidents." He said fees have remained largely unchanged since at least 2019 and that comparable programs in surrounding communities charge $90 to $150.
Commissioners discussed the proposal briefly, then moved and approved the fee adjustment by roll call. Staff said the change is intended to preserve program quality amid growing costs for uniforms, equipment and officiating.
Officials said they will post the new fee schedule and continue outreach to participants and families ahead of the fall season.
