Board approves tax rate, district agreements and routine business during September meeting

Contracts and placements: The board approved district-of-location agreements that allow South Huntington to bill home districts for certain special-education costs (items 2 and 3) and approved two confidential student stipulations and out-of-district placements for students who attended Gersh Academy for the 2024–25 year; administrators said Gersh bills the district after the school year and the board authorized the payments.
Field trips and conferences: The board authorized an overnight trip for the Mulberry High School marching band to compete in Syracuse and approved travel for two ELA staff members to the National Council of Teachers of English conference in Denver (Nov. 20–23).
Programs and hires: The board accepted restored funding that allows the district to continue participation in the Foster Grandparent Program, authorized renaming two district properties to reflect program changes effective July 1, 2026 (to the Silas Wood Pre‑Kindergarten Center at 23 Harding Place and the Memorial Sixth Grade Center at 125 Pigeon Hill Road), and authorized hiring outside counsel (Silverman & Associates) for a special assignment.
Other approvals: The board approved the superintendent’s attendance at an annual leadership summit in Saratoga Springs, accepted committee recommendations (special education and preschool special education schedules), and approved an agreement with Huntington to allow a private-school student to participate in the SEARCH program.
