Sweetwater County extends Stage 1 fire restrictions through Sept. 17

Sweetwater County commissioners voted Sept. 2 to extend a Stage 1 fire restriction after the county fire warden reported continued dry conditions.
Fire Warden Allen Adams told the board that although recent moisture had occurred, long-term fuel conditions remained low and neighboring counties and the BLM had left restrictions open-ended. Adams recommended extending the county’s order rather than setting a near date that might require frequent amendment.
Commissioners discussed options for a short reauthorization versus an open-ended order. One commissioner proposed extending the order to the next BOCC meeting so staff could continue to monitor moisture and fuel levels; another proposed taking the item to the first October meeting. The board ultimately voted to re-impose the Stage 1 restriction under Resolution 2025-08-CC-04 with an updated end date of Sept. 17, 2025. The motion passed unanimously.
Officials said the restriction can be rescinded earlier if moisture conditions improve or reimposed if conditions worsen.
