Summary
Sweetwater County emergency staff recommended removal of the county fire restrictions; commissioners agreed to take no action to extend the restriction and allow it to expire tomorrow, noting coordination with BLM and neighboring counties.
Sweetwater County emergency management staff recommended removing county fire restrictions at the Sept. 16 commission meeting, and commissioners did not extend the existing restriction, allowing it to expire the next day.
Alan (county fire official) told the commission that Carbon County will remove its restrictions starting tomorrow, Uinta County’s fire personnel favor removal and the BLM supervisor indicated the agency would remove its restrictions for Sweetwater County if the county did so. "It's my recommendation to remove the fire restrictions at this time," Alan said, noting that Lincoln and Sublette counties remain under restrictions due to active fires there.
Commissioners supported allowing the current restriction to lapse. Commissioner Richards said fuel moisture levels are increasing and cooler mornings with dew indicate the local fire danger has passed for now. Alan reported that seasonal firefighters have finished for the year and that Sweetwater County burned approximately 650 acres this season, with the largest fire about 400 acres; he said all incidents were contained.
The board recorded no formal extension of the restriction; the action was to take no further action and let the existing resolution expire on its scheduled date.
