Sweetwater commissioners approve grants, contracts, Samsara renewal and five vehicle bids

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners approved a package of grant amendments, contract renewals and vehicle purchases during its Sept. 2 meeting.
Grants and public-safety contracts: County grants manager Christina Marshall said the county received an additional $50,000 for the FY2025 TANF Community Partnership Initiative; the funding will be passed through to CLIMB Wyoming and must be expended by Sept. 30, 2026, bringing the total TANF award to $100,000. Marshall also described a $1,200 state amendment for Regional Emergency Response Team (RERT) #4 to cover ballistic vests and helmets; the RERT award increased to $245,313.41 with the amendment. The commission approved both grant amendments and authorized the chairman to sign.
Land lease and software: Public works director Jean (Gene) Legurski and Deputy County Attorney John De Leon returned the Verizon Wireless land-lease amendment after edits addressing earlier concerns (a noncompete clause had been removed); the board approved the amendment and authorized the chairman to sign. The board also approved a three-year renewal of Samsara fleet-tracking software, which Legurski described as essential for vehicle location, crash reconstruction and emergency response.
Fleet procurement: The board awarded five vehicle bid packages (a 2026 Chevy Tahoe for the sheriff at $55,691; three 2026 Dodge Durango pursuit vehicles totaling $119,556; a 2026 Ford Escape at $29,832.50; a 2026 ProMaster cargo van at $59,724; and four 3/4-ton crew-cab pickups totaling $191,692). Commissioners confirmed all awards were within budget; some sheriff units will require upfit procurement.
All actions on these items were unanimous.
