Commission approves consent agenda, several procurement awards and appointments; $425,125 warrant approved with one abstention

At its Sept. 16 meeting the Sweetwater County Board approved routine business on the consent agenda and took separate votes on procurement awards, an MOU and board appointments.
Consent agenda: The board approved an eight‑item consent agenda covering the Sept. 2 meeting minutes, county vouchers/warrants, monthly reports, abatements and rebates, human services agreements, and two position restocks; the warrant to Vaughn's Plumbing and Heating was removed from consent for separate consideration and the modified consent agenda passed unanimously.
Outstanding warrant: The board also approved Outstanding Warrant No. 128076 to Devon's Plumbing & Heating for $425,125. That motion carried, but one commissioner announced an abstention, stating the firm was their employer.
Procurements and MOU: Public works reported a recommended award for the FY2026 crack seal project to R and D Sweeping and Asphalt Maintenance LLC for $82,805.40 (the low bidder), which commissioners approved. The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Searle Brothers Construction to grade and mag‑chloride County Roads 15 and 18 at no cost to the county in support of a large haul from a local Lucite pit. IT and purchasing staff recommended awarding Cisco network switches to A & M for $86,776.39; that award passed. The board also authorized purchase of a rotary mower from Blackcliff Equipment for $36,060.
Appointments: Commissioners filled a vacancy on the predatory animal board, appointing Dave Jerrell to an unexpired term through July 1, 2027 after deeming the other applicant ineligible due to livestock ownership. The board also appointed Dr. Devin Tanner to the District Board of Health for a four‑year term (through July 1, 2029).
All procurement and appointment items passed on voice votes recorded as unanimous except the Devon's Plumbing warrant, which carried with one abstention. Commissioners noted most awards were under budget.
