Commission extends and consolidates wagering approvals for Wyoming Horse Racing through 2029

Sweetwater County commissioners on Aug. 19 approved a consolidated resolution allowing Wyoming Horse Racing LLC to operate pari-mutuel wagering, historic-horse-racing and simulcast events at its Green River and Rock Springs satellite facilities through Dec. 31, 2029.
John Sheldon, executive vice president for Wyoming Horse Racing (speaking at the meeting), said the operator preferred either of two draft options and sought alignment with the gaming commission licensing term to justify investments. The board considered two options — one with an explicit revocation clause and one without — and discussed aligning county authorizations with state gaming license timing.
Commissioner Slaughter and others said they favored the version that includes a revocation clause for gross violations of statutes, rules, or local ordinances. Commissioner Jones moved to approve resolution 25-08-CCC-01, extending the terms through Dec. 31, 2029 and including a revocation clause; Commissioner Richards seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The action consolidates terms across multiple local racing operators to create consistent language and gives the county a revocation mechanism if gross violations occur. The county noted one of the existing site authorizations (Green River) had an earlier expiry date prompting the alignment.
