The Clark Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Laura Calaguire to a board vacancy and elected Lorraine Acolonis as the board’s vice president, both for terms running through Dec. 31, 2025.
A quorum of nine members was present for the session. The chair moved to approve personnel agenda items and then called for a separate motion to appoint Laura Calaguire to fill a vacancy that runs to Dec. 31, 2025. After a motion and a second, the board recorded a roll-call vote in which the members read as voting yes; the chair announced the motion carried.
After the appointment, board members discussed whether the new appointee needed to be sworn in before participating in further business. The board administered the oath of office to Laura Calaguire, who recited the oath aloud: “I, Laura Calaguire, do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of The United States and the constitution of the state of New Jersey, and that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same and to the governments established in The United States and in this state under the authority of the people. I further swear that I will faithfully, impartially, and justly perform all the duties of the office of the Clark Board of Education to the best of my ability.”
The board then opened nominations for vice president. A member nominated Lorraine Acolonis, and the nomination was seconded by Shane Guerrero. The board took a roll-call vote and the motion to elect Acolonis as vice president for a term ending Dec. 31, 2025, carried with affirmative responses recorded during the roll call.
The chair noted that the meeting had been called with adequate notice in accordance with PL 1975, chapter 231, section 13, and that the floor was not open to public comment for agenda items. With no further business, the board moved to adjourn and closed the meeting.
Votes at a glance: the personnel motions, the appointment of Laura Calaguire to the board vacancy (term through Dec. 31, 2025), and the election of Lorraine Acolonis as vice president (term through Dec. 31, 2025) were approved by roll-call votes with affirmative responses from the members present.
