Al Mohler moved and the Friendship Heights Village Council unanimously approved a technical budget reallocation to accommodate a police program approved at the council's July meeting: $180,000 from budget line 9c (police patrols) was transferred to line 3a (salaries), increasing line 3a to $1,056,000 but leaving the fiscal year 2026 bottom line unchanged.
"I move approval for the removal of budget line item 9 c, designated as police patrols and the reallocation of its $180,000 to budget line item 3 a designated as salaries, which will then total $1,056,000 within the previously approved fiscal year 2026 budget," Al Mohler said when making the motion. The motion was seconded and the council voted aye unanimously.
Chair Martha Soult described the reallocation as "sort of a technical thing" that shifts funds within the approved budget rather than increasing spending. Council members and staff said the movement was intended to align line-item categories with the previously approved program and to avoid delaying implementation for a month.
No public speaker raised opposition during the item. The council recorded the reallocation as approved and closed the item, returning to other business and then adjourning the meeting.
