Everett School Committee accepts donations, grants and approves $877,157.43 in bills and payroll

The Everett School Committee on Sept. 15 accepted a series of community donations and grants and approved bills and payroll totaling $877,157.43.

Superintendent Hart asked that agenda items 2–6 — donations of backpacks and school supplies from Teamsters Local 25 (approximately $8,500), Members Plus Credit Union (approximately $4,500), Encore Boston Harbor employees (approximately $4,000), Saugus Everett Alex Lodge (approximately $2,500), and the Elliott Family Resource Center (approximately $2,500) — be taken collectively. The committee voted to accept the donations with a roll-call vote recorded as unanimous on the transcript (8–0).

The committee also accepted a Project Lead The Way grant to support computer science teacher training. The transcript contains a numeric discrepancy during presentation (one line reads "$1,414,000"), but the superintendent and the subsequent motion specified the award amount as $14,000; the committee approved the grant by roll call (8–0). The committee accepted a $5,600 Next Generation Learning Challenges grant to send district educators to a Washington, D.C. learning excursion for multilingual‑learner strategies; that motion passed unanimously.

The committee approved establishing a student activity account for the Everett High School advanced manufacturing program to hold funds from student sales. Finally, Miss Cristiano moved and the committee approved submitting and paying bills and payroll in the amount of $877,157.43; that vote is recorded as unanimous on the transcript (9–0).

No amendments to these items were recorded. The superintendent said the donations would be acknowledged with customary letters of thanks.
