Henderson County court approves grants, elections notices and routine contracts

HENDERSON COUNTY
At its meeting, Henderson County Commissioners Court approved a range of routine administrative items in addition to the contentious FM 1667 discussion.
Grant and election notices: The court accepted a FY2025 formula grant award of $63,376 from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (grant #21225107). Staff explained the formula includes a $15,000 base plus adjustments based on the county—s share of state population and statewide defense expenditures. The court also authorized submission of the FY2026 TIDC formula grant application and approved a notice of special election to consider dissolution of the Cedar Creek Hospital District; staff said the special election will have 15 voting locations and four early-voting sites.
Reimbursements and bills: The court accepted $26,880 from EPC Service Company for damages to County Road 3718 (Precinct 3) and $1,553.04 from the City of Coffee City for road patching materials in Precinct 4. Commissioners approved FY2025 bills totaling $812,804.64 and an accounts-cash sheet for the period ending August 2025.
Contracts, policies and personnel: The court renewed participation in the Texas Association of Counties retiree plan (no cost to the county), renewed the law-library contract paid from the law-library fund, and approved budget amendments to allow a temporary part-time court reporter in County Court at Law No. 2.
Other routine business: The court set county auction dates for Oct. 21 (opening) through Nov. 14 (closing) and approved a resubdivision plat for Lots 19 and 21 at Chandler Farm to create Lots 19A and 21A. Several of the items passed unanimously.
