PlanRVA and partner agencies gave brief operational updates to the authority, including staffing changes, canceled events and transit ridership growth.
A PlanRVA representative said the Port of Virginia tour scheduled for September was canceled due to insufficient interest: "we did not have enough interest in the upcoming Port of Virginia tour that was scheduled for September, so we did cancel that," the representative said. The representative also announced long‑time CBTA support staff member Janice will retire and will stay through October; recruitment for a replacement is underway. The packet noted Elizabeth Oatman will join the team on Sept. 2 as accounting manager.
GRTC reported expansion of a microtransit zone in Powhatan and increased ridership across the system. A GRTC representative said expansion of microtransit has attracted additional riders and that systemwide ridership has surpassed pre‑pandemic levels: "We're over 12,000,000 riders, which is huge." The authority also acknowledged the recent passing of former member John Hodges and moved into a closed session later in the meeting to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
Next steps: PlanRVA will continue recruitment and onboarding for accounting support, GRTC will continue monitoring microtransit performance, and staff will follow up on canceled events and outreach.
