Manvel council authorizes three-year library lease renewal, library reports record summer attendance

Katie Smith, representing the Manvel Public Library, told the council the summer programming season produced record attendance and repeatedly reached the building's capacity limits. "This has been the most successful summer program that the Manvel Public Library has ever had in its entire history," she said, noting monthly program numbers kept since January 2022 and repeated instances where fire-marshall limits required staff to pause programs.
Council response: Members expressed support for the library and voted to authorize the manager to sign the renewed lease to ensure the library has a stable operating location. Mayor Dan Davis and others urged staff to use the three-year window to locate or plan for a larger facility. Tammy clarified the only substantive contract change was removal of prior split-air-conditioning replacement language that had already been resolved.
Next steps: Staff will execute the renewal and continue to search for or plan a larger facility; council emphasized the need to have a longer-term solution before the three-year term expires.
