Delta County adopts 2025–26 budget changes and approves winter tax rate

Delta County’s Board of Commissioners approved recommended adjustments to the 2025–26 budget and adopted the budget resolution with several amendments at its regular meeting.

County finance staff said the primary line-item changes reflect updated salary and fringe calculations (recently recompiled by the controller), increased printing costs in the clerk’s office for early voting, allocation of prior master-plan costs to planning, updated planning commission reimbursement estimates, and requested scanners and supplies for probate court in anticipation of MiFILE implementation.

The board moved through a package of budgetary motions and approved a revised budget resolution to reflect the board’s actions at the 9/16/25 meeting. Commissioners requested textual edits to the resolution (change the title from "director of administration and finance" to "County Administrator," clarify references to statutorily required positions, and reconcile travel/per-diem language that would cap out-of-UP travel at 12 days — later amended to 15 days in the recorded motion).

Finance staff reported the winter tax rate as 3.8508, which the board approved. The rate includes law-enforcement millage, community action agency, 9-1-1, recycling, veterans affairs and jail-bond levies; staff noted the jail bond recalculation had been performed and the form on file.

The board adopted the FY25–26 budget resolution and related amendments by roll call where required; several commissioners asked for further clean-up language and staff indicated they would make the requested textual corrections before final documentation was posted.
