The Triton Regional School Committee opened a broad discussion on a district-wide communication strategy and agreed to ask the Policy & Advocacy subcommittee to research possible approaches.
Committee members said the district struggles to reach residents across the three member towns and that better communication is important for building community support for district initiatives, including the building project. One member summarized the concern: members "have so many things that are sort of becoming part of this idea of how to get communications out" and noted people in the broader community often do not know about school events or offerings.
Options discussed included expanding existing in-house efforts (a weekly video and newsletter), hiring a full-time communications specialist, or contracting a professional communications firm. Members suggested using student groups, such as the community service club and honor societies, to amplify outreach and proposed community-focused events to bring residents to the campus.
The committee agreed that Policy & Advocacy should investigate multiple scenarios (including in-house versus outside vendor options, cost estimates and possible event ideas) and report back to the full committee with recommendations and budget implications.
