School committee approves 2025–26 improvement plans, accepts federal grants and approves student trip

The Hopkinton School Committee on Sept. 25 approved the district’s 2025–26 school improvement plans after administrators from the high school, middle school and elementary schools presented goals focused on multi‑tiered systems of support (MTSS), student agency and social‑emotional learning.
High‑school presenters described two central goals: refining MTSS through professional learning communities to tailor instruction and expanding student agency through a senior capstone program; the principal said the aim for the coming year is to reach "100% of the students" participating in the senior capstone experience. Middle‑school and elementary presentations emphasized TQE (thoughts, questions, epiphanies) instructional strategies, restorative justice, staff collaboration time and aligning SEL curricula across grades.
Following discussion, a committee member moved to approve the school improvement plans and the motion passed with an affirmative voice vote.
The committee also accepted FY'26 federal ESSA entitlement grants totaling $183,238 and IDEA grants totaling $1,021,247. A committee member moved and the board voted to accept each funding award by voice vote.
On the consent agenda the committee approved an overnight Model United Nations trip to Boston in February 2026 for up to 21 students, and authorized deposit of $294.54 in ticket revenue into the Hopkins School gift account. Committee members noted continued attention to policy updates (first readings on GBEBC gifts and BDA organizational rules) and requested additional discussion on nomination procedures for chair and vice‑chair before any vote on those changes.
The meeting adjourned after the committee approved remaining packet items by consensus and moved to adjourn.
