On Sept. 9 the Planning Commission voted to accept staff findings and recommend that the City Council approve a map amendment to rezone 1423 West Eighth Avenue from RSS (small‑lot single‑family residential) to RT (two‑family residential).
Katie Purdy, agent for the applicant, said the rezoning is needed so the owner can add a kitchen and count the building as a duplex. “Our client is rezoning this property in order to add a small addition on that will include a kitchen,” Purdy said.
Planning staff explained the property’s context — adjacent to a hospital parking lot and office zoning — and noted the comprehensive plan’s future land‑use map calls for commercial use at the site; staff recommended accepting findings and forwarding approval to council. Developer Don Williams said the lot’s size and proximity to the hospital make the change appropriate and that new construction would not detract from the area.
A motion to accept the staff findings and recommend approval to the city council carried 3–0.
The rezoning recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council for final action.
