The Planning Commission on Sept. 9 approved a short-term rental license for 1004 North Dryden Circle after hearing from applicants and staff.
Desiree Moritz, the applicant, said she and her husband bought the property to operate it as an Airbnb to meet demand during local events and that they remodeled it for that purpose. “We have given all the neighbors our phone numbers so they have access to us,” Moritz said, adding the owners use a noise meter that alerts them if levels exceed thresholds and four exterior cameras to monitor comings and goings.
City planning staff described the process for short-term rental licenses, including a 300-foot notice to neighbors and a public hearing when concerns are raised. Staff told the commission that the planning commission is the deciding body for short-term rental licenses.
Commissioners asked about measures to prevent parties and whether the owners would limit renters by age; Moritz said she would approve guests manually and rent only to people older than 25, and that she would not permit long-term stays beyond two weeks.
No members of the public spoke in opposition at the hearing. After staff outlined alternatives to approve, defer or deny, a commissioner moved to approve the application; the motion passed unanimously with a 3–0 vote.
The commission’s approval means the applicant may proceed with the short-term rental licensing process; any change in ownership would require a new application, the commission noted.
