The Monroe County Community School Corporation’s information-services team presented a technology update that covered cybersecurity, device distribution, data protection and classroom uses of AI.
Director of Technology Andy Cope described endpoint protection, a remote security-operations center (SOC), email filtering, content-filtering by category and grade-level restrictions, industry-standard firewalls, battery backups and a secure wired and wireless network across buildings. Cope said the district follows federal and state privacy laws when handling student data and uses Skyward as the authoritative student-information system with role-based access.
Cope outlined the district’s one-to-one approach: iPads for K–6, iPads with keyboard cases for middle school and Windows laptops at the high school level to expose students to different platforms. He said the district reviews applications in partnership with curriculum staff and limits vendor data-sharing to essential information only.
Support processes use a centralized Zendesk help-desk ticketing system; staff reported 27,082 help-desk tickets processed over the past year and 51,321 support-article views as of Sept. 12. In response to a board question about artificial intelligence, staff said classroom AI use has been minimal to date but that the district has DOE grant access to a program called Magic School AI to allow teachers to explore focused lesson creation and responsible classroom use.
