Board signs off on North Shore infrastructure, safety contracts and several operational measures

The Coachella Valley Unified School District board approved multiple business and facilities items Monday tied to the opening of North Shore Elementary and district operations.
Contracts and approvals included:
- An agreement with Interquest detection canines for 2025–26 to provide detection searches at secondary sites (item 10.1); the roll-call vote recorded "No" votes from Trustees Joey Acuna and Jesus Gonzales.
- Authorization to issue purchase orders to Coachella Valley Water District for domestic water meters at North Shore Elementary (item 10.2), approved by roll call.
- Adoption of a resolution designating district representatives to sign School Facility Program applications and authorization to acquire easements and road dedications for North Shore off-site improvements (items 10.3 and 10.4), both adopted by board vote.
- Approval of a CMAS contract supplement and an upgrade with FuelMaster (items 10.5 and 10.6), and passage of a resolution delegating limited purchasing authority to the superintendent or designee under Education Code section 35161 (item 10.11); the purchasing-delegation motion passed with five in favor, one opposed and one trustee recorded as stepped out.
Trustees said the facilities committee recommended several items and emphasized the need for transparency and clear transition plans as the district opens a new campus. Trustee Joey Acuna and others noted these facilities items were recommended by the facilities committee earlier in the day.
Next steps: Administrative staff will complete MOUs, easement documentation and procurement steps; North Shore has a public opening scheduled for Aug. 18, and the district will coordinate off-site improvements and utilities ahead of occupancy.
