Alice council tweaks Stage 3 drought rules to permit even/odd watering schedule

David Drew, who addressed the council on the item, asked members to “lift this as soon as possible immediately” for watering limited to the city’s existing even/odd schedule and specified hours. He told the council the RO plant was at about 50% capacity and that lake elevation remained below the 82-foot threshold needed to lift Stage 3 restrictions (he said the lake read about 79.4 feet the previous day). “We need water to be moving out of the distribution system to help out with the pouring residuals,” Drew said.
Under the approved revision, watering hours and the even/odd day pattern remain unchanged: even-numbered addresses water on Sundays and Thursdays; odd-numbered addresses water on Saturdays and Wednesdays, with the same morning/evening time windows noted in current rules. The council passed the revision by voice vote after a motion and second; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
Council members said the change is intended to promote circulation and use while the city monitors reservoir levels and RO-plant progress. Officials said the revised guidance and a contact number for city staff will be posted on the city website for residents seeking clarification.
