Alice council approves rezoning at 1850 S. Johnson, insurance contract, interlocal 911 agreement and golf‑cart lease

On public‑safety services, Noel Esquivel, 9‑1‑1 program director for the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, described an updated interlocal agreement tying the city’s public safety answering point to regional technical support and grant administration through the Commission on State Emergency Communications. Esquivel said the agreement covers equipment refresh cycles (front‑room equipment refreshed every three years; back‑room/server equipment every six years) and assists with training and reimbursable educational needs at no cost to the city. Council later voted to enter the interlocal agreement and authorized the city manager to execute the contract.
The council also approved a four‑year lease for 40 Club Car Tempo electric golf carts for the City of Alice municipal golf course. Jay Garcia, the city’s director of golf, told council the current fleet is deteriorated and that leasing new carts will avoid recurring large battery‑replacement costs. Discussion noted the carts use lead‑acid batteries (life roughly four to five years) and that the monthly lease payment is about $3,800; staff estimated annual cart revenue at roughly $267,000. Council moved and approved the lease by voice vote.
