Julie Littke, branch manager of the Mayfield branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library, and Jade Walker, head of adult services, visited the Sept. 8 Mayfield Heights City Council meeting to describe library services and community outreach.
Littke emphasized the library system's 27 branches and the shared resources available to residents across the district. She noted the library serves the whole school district and works with schools and senior centers. "We serve the whole school district and all the cities," Littke said, encouraging residents who may feel a branch is distant to use nearby branches and available services.
Walker reviewed services available from the library website (cuyahogalibrary.org): streaming and digital lending (Hoopla, Libby), research tools such as Ancestry, digital navigators for one-on-one technology help, classes (from basic computer skills to Adobe), adult-education and job-readiness programs through Aspire/Cuyahoga Works, and mobile pantries that provide shelf-stable food boxes. Walker also highlighted Makerspace and innovation centers (3-D printers, laser engravers, Cricut machines) available systemwide after a brief orientation.
The library also offers Library-to-You homebound delivery for eligible residents, passport-application services, a digital-chat "Ask Us" option staffed by librarians, and a seasonal bike-checkout program that lets patrons borrow a bike for three hours. Littke and Walker said paper and online surveys (open through Sept. 14) seek public feedback.
Council members thanked the presenters and accepted printed materials for distribution at community facilities.
