Lisa, introduced by staff as the fire marshal from the local fire department, told the board that electrical work and similar items are frequent causes of fires and that maintaining permit requirements encourages professional installation. “If you take out the requirement for a permit, then most people probably won't do it,” she said, adding that keeping permits “maybe more people will have a professional put it in, and that's a cut down on…modifiers we're getting from something like that.”
Staff and the attorney said the draft of the village code amendment had tracked changes and redlined edits; they asked trustees to flag any items they believed were incorrectly captured. Staff indicated they had no major objections to the draft as circulated and asked for direction to move the ordinance toward action.
