District highlights RISE special-education program and classroom upgrades at Robert Semple

Mr. Phillips, the district’s Director of Special Education, presented the RISE program (Reaching Independence through Support and Education) at Robert Semple Elementary as the meeting’s highlight.
He described RISE as a continuum option that serves preschool through fifth grade with four classrooms, supporting students’ social, functional and academic readiness skills and providing related services such as occupational therapy and speech-language support inside classrooms. Phillips said the program emphasizes inclusion, strength-based placements and data collection to expand access to general education over time.
Phillips also described recent classroom upgrades: modular, low-tip furniture to meet sensory and safety needs and Promethean interactive boards that he said are durable, portable, height-adjustable and integrated with the district’s unique learning systems curriculum. He explained that some services and equipment are supported by medical billing for related-service providers, which helps fund classroom resources.
Trustees thanked staff and recognized teachers, paraprofessionals and related-service providers for their work; the presentation served as a district spotlight and informational highlight rather than a board action item.
