Waunakee board approves architect services for DPW facility remodel, $474,588

The Waunakee Village Board voted Sept. 12 to move ahead with Phase 2 design services for a Department of Public Works facility remodel, approving an agreement for design and bid preparation with Kinney Architects in the amount of $474,588.
Staff presented a site plan that would add roughly 15,000 square feet in a south-garage addition, new office space to consolidate engineering and public-works leadership, a northeast wash bay, moved salt-storage to the northwest corner and remodeled mechanic and mower shops. Projected benefits cited included additional dedicated mechanic bays and space to serve the village’s expanding operations.
The packet noted $7,200 had been spent to date on the architect’s initial work. Trustees asked about sustainability measures for building materials and roofing; staff said sustainable-design options will be explored in the next phase as the project moves from conceptual site plan to detailed design.
A trustee moved to approve the agreement with Kinney Architects for Phase 2 services in the amount of $474,588. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: proceed to further design, develop bid specifications and bring the project to bidding once the detailed phase is complete.
