City staff updated the Bay Area Council on several infrastructure projects, reporting surprises and revised schedules that affect park construction and adjacent streets.
At Briscoe Park, crews undertaking grading and utility relocations discovered previously undocumented water lines and utilities that had been run under building slabs. Staff said those lines must be rerouted and that the project will produce improved mapping of the system going forward. "Never really been mapped," a staff speaker said of the utility network, noting the work had revealed unexpected outages and alignments.
Staff also reported that permitting from the county for work north of Wisteria is now complete and that pre-construction coordination is underway. The contract for the sewer work was described as a 60-day contract but staff said, given the scope, crews hope to finish in 25 to 30 days. Council members asked staff to expedite sidewalk work along North Road to improve pedestrian safety for runners and other users; staff said partial completion to a nearby parking lot might be feasible.
No votes or formal changes to project scope were recorded in the session. Staff said it will provide further updates as construction proceeds and as the city finalizes financing discussions with Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and other partners.
