Board approves East Troy High School fireworks permit, waives $200 fee

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve East Troy High School’s request for a special fireworks permit for a homecoming celebration scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3, and also approved waiving the board’s $200 special-meeting fee.

The permit will allow fireworks to be launched from a location behind the high school’s tennis courts following the football game, a staff member told the board. "They're gonna do them behind the tennis courts on their property," the staff member said, and described the request as a last-minute arrangement after the school secured a fireworks vendor.

Fire Chief Degarro confirmed public-safety coverage would be provided for the event and said he had "no concerns." The chief and Officer Hackett were both listed as expected to be on site, and the chief confirmed sufficient staffing to support the display.

A trustee moved to approve the special permit; the motion was seconded by President Johnson and carried with the trustees present. Later in the meeting a separate motion to waive the board’s standard $200 fee for a special meeting was made and approved by the same vote. Trustees Harding and Seager were excused from the meeting; the vote reflected the members present.

The board took the actions at a short special meeting called specifically to consider the fireworks application. The meeting adjourned after roughly four minutes.
