Vice Chair Jasper Williams told the Southington Board of Education that he will resign effective 08/22/2025 after accepting a new career opportunity that will require relocating to Alabama.
“I will be resigning officially tomorrow,” Williams read in a letter to the board. In the letter he wrote, “It has been a true honor to serve our community…Every decision I made was guided by commitment to integrity, accountability, and the belief that our students deserve the very best opportunities to succeed.”
Board members and attendees offered multiple remarks of appreciation. One board member said Williams had made “a great contribution to this board of education” and praised his work on curriculum and budget questions. Others thanked him for his dedication, calling him “respectful” and “a gentleman,” and noted his service on committees and practical budgeting contributions.
Williams said he looks forward to supporting Southington in the future and returning to public service. The board did not take action on filling the vacancy at the meeting; next steps for appointment or special election were not specified during the session.
