Local Scouts pitch lending library and spectator benches to Kings Park board

Two Eagle Scout candidates presented community projects to the Kings Park Central School District board during the Aug. 5 meeting and received encouragement and logistical guidance from trustees and administrators.

Brady Hall (introducing himself as a Boy Scout) proposed building a lending library in front of New Beginnings Preschool and the district central office so neighborhood children who lack easy access to a library could borrow books. "I will be building a lending library in front of the New Beginnings preschool and Central office," Hall said.

Cooper Ault proposed constructing four benches at William T. Rogers Middle School to improve viewing for parents and grandparents at the tennis courts, which Ault described as a "very hilly" area that forces many spectators to watch from cars. "By putting benches there it's going to make the overall area much better," he said.

Board members thanked the scouts and offered help with publicity and fundraising. Administrators asked the volunteers to coordinate bench or library siting with grounds staff before installation to avoid conflicts with maintenance or utility locations; one board member recalled a similar project that required a more permanent anchoring discussion. The volunteers said they would leave fundraising flyers and arrange follow'up by email and social media.

The board expressed appreciation for student volunteer work and invited the scouts to keep the district informed of timelines and placement details.
