Board reviews district goals for 2025'26 emphasizing mental health, AI and diploma seals

At the Aug. 18 meeting, Dr. Egan outlined the Kings Park district's five overarching goals for 2025'26 and described next steps for curriculum, mental-health supports and technology planning.
Dr. Egan said the district will continue work on the New York State "Portrait of a Graduate," break that work into monthly themes and expand diploma seals (including biliteracy and civic readiness). He said the district applied for and received state funding for a community-read initiative to accompany the recently enacted device-ban conversation and identified $13,854 allocated to Kings Park in the state budget for that effort: "the piece allocated to Kings Park was, dollars 13,854," he said.
Mental-health work will continue through MTSS-aligned supports, trauma-informed training and partnerships with local town and county providers. The district will also develop a new three-year instructional-technology plan as the current plan sunsets, increase Chromebook distribution, and pursue cybersecurity and inventory improvements.
Dr. Egan flagged artificial intelligence as an instructional priority and said the district will study potential uses and harms; he also reiterated fiscal-planning goals to maintain reserves and pursue grants. The board received the presentation and thanked staff; board members urged community-facing communications that are timely and not overwhelming.
