The City of Auburn's communications team welcomed Angie Picosian back in a new role as social media and marketing specialist, announcing plans to broaden the city's digital coverage of local businesses, cultural heritage months and downtown arts events.
Jonathan Glover, communications manager for the City of Auburn, said Angie has been on the job roughly two weeks and that the new role expands the city’s capacity for regular social media features. "We've never really done this before. This is brand new for the City of Auburn," Glover said.
Picosian described several recurring programs she will manage: interviews profiling community members for Hispanic Heritage Month, a renewed Small Business Spotlight series, and a weekly Local Eats Monday promotion to highlight restaurants and deals. "We've got, different heritage months that we are highlighting," Picosian said. She cited recent shoots at Auburn Mountain View High School and event coverage such as Hops and Crops and downtown sculpture installations.
The communications team also discussed platform strategy, including the city’s Instagram presence and a planned TikTok launch. On air, hosts quizzed one another about the city’s accounts; Picosian said the staff recently grabbed a TikTok handle but did not announce it during the episode.
Glover and Picosian highlighted past social reach as evidence of potential audience growth. They said a viral reel about an accidental drive toward another “Auburn” once generated more than 16,000 likes and nearly 90,000 views; Picosian said the account sits just under 3,000 followers and a recent viral reel added roughly 300 followers.
The communications office named specific local businesses and events that will be promoted: Piestyles' new location across from City Hall, Chaska Bar and Grill and other participants in the Eat Local Monday series. Picosian said she aims to be on location for both large and small city events and to post interviews and behind‑the‑scenes coverage.
Glover encouraged residents to follow the city’s channels for updates and event recaps. The team said business cards and cross‑promotion among staff will help direct residents to the correct accounts and expand local reach.
