City staff negotiating operating agreement with American Cruise Lines; permanent water, sewer access planned

City staff provided an update on negotiations with American Cruise Lines aimed at securing continued port calls and a possible permanent operating relationship.
Charlie, a city staff member, said the city is pursuing a formal operating agreement to "assure ourselves of continued port calls" and to establish permanent water and sewer access for cruise vessels so they will not need temporary hookups or trucked waste removal. Charlie said the city may hire an outside engineering firm to determine how those utilities would be extended and estimated that, once the engineering and terms were understood, the agreement could be finalized this fall and proceed to council for approval.
Charlie also said the city has discussed the possibility of a second vessel calling during the season and that the cruise line is "very interested" in an operating agreement. Staff indicated they will return to the commission with updates as negotiations and engineering work progress.
