During its Sept. 15 meeting the Natchitoches Parish School Board approved multiple updates to student-handbook and personnel policies.
On student conduct, the board adopted changes adding consequences for fighting on buses and moved to allow principals discretion on out-of-uniform days rather than the prior nine-day cap. Administrators said a new checklist will be used when fights occur so the district can consider individual circumstances and special-education protections when appropriate.
On personnel policies, the board approved revisions to annual and personal leave (policy 707.4). The changes front-load 10 annual days on July 1, limit accumulation to 50 days, cap payout on separation at 20 days, and cap usage in a fiscal year at 25 days. Administration told the board employees currently holding large balances will be grandfathered for their accrued leave, but the payout cap applies going forward. The board also approved updates to absence and grievance policies (700 and 701.3) and a member-behavior/ethics addition to address an auditor exception.
Board members said the adjustments balance fiscal responsibility with operational fairness; the motions passed by roll call or voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
