Natchitoches School Board approves tutor-facilitator hires to comply with state high-dosage tutoring law

The Natchitoches Parish School Board on Sept. 15 approved a job description and the hiring plan for part-time tutor facilitators to implement Louisiana’s high-dosage tutoring law (Act 771).
Presenters explained the law requires K–3 students who score below benchmark on the state literacy screener to receive embedded high-dosage tutoring: three 30‑minute sessions per week for a 10‑week cycle in groups that meet a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. District staff said funding for 2025–26 includes $226,000 allocated by the state for this program.
District leaders said the plan pairs an approved vendor, AIR Reading, which will deliver the certified-teacher tutoring sessions, with locally hired facilitators whose role is to assemble rosters, escort students to tutoring rooms, resolve technical issues and monitor students during sessions. The board approved hiring up to five or six facilitators total — three at LP Vaughan, one at Weaver and one or two at Fairview — for a 20-week duration tied to the tutoring cycles. Facilitators will work up to 28 hours per week and be paid $10 per hour (noncertified) or $15 per hour (certified), with an Oct. 14 start date for the ELA cycle.
Supporters said the combination of vendor-led instruction and on-site facilitators will allow the district to meet the 4:1 requirement despite manpower constraints in some schools. The board approved the job description and hiring plan by roll call.
