District staff gave three informational updates the board will see in the July 22 packet: the annual K—2 English language arts curriculum review required by Act 20; the annual Act 55 notice regarding academic standards; and a scheduling change for the Frank alternative calendar.
On Act 20, staff said the upcoming report will analyze the district's K—2 ELA curriculum against the Wisconsin DPI's criteria for reading instruction and include assessment-related data now available following the school year close. Staff said the district adapted curriculum materials using local expertise rather than purchasing a new program, so some state reimbursement for curriculum does not apply; literacy coach positions were partially funded by newly released state money.
Staff also presented the required Act 55 notice, saying the district will continue to use Wisconsin state academic standards and national science standards and will post referenced materials on the district website; the notice does not change standards in use.
Finally, staff described a calendar adjustment for the Frank program: enrichment weeks were moved from March 23'April 1 to March 2'12 to avoid conflict with Wisconsin Forward and AIMSwebPlus testing windows, adding one enrichment day for students and aligning a staff work day on April 2 with the district's schedule.
