Students outline fall fundraisers as ESY staff detail program changes

Student government leaders and special‑education staff updated the Manchester Township Board of Education on student activities and summer programming changes.
Katherine Esquinel, executive president of the Manchester Township Student Government Association, and Joshua Johnson reviewed recent and upcoming fundraisers: an Aug. 28 senior‑class fundraiser, an Applebee’s fundraiser, a Chipotle fundraiser tied to a Sept. 20 game, and a Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser planned after the Oct. 17 homecoming game. They also highlighted Club Rush and fall spirit week activities and reminded the board of the homecoming dance on Oct. 18.
Separately, the district’s Extended School Year (ESY) presenter outlined this year’s schedule and planned changes. For summer 2025 the autism program ran five weeks while other ESY classes ran four weeks; programs operated three days per week for four hours per day across four buildings. The district reported a change for next year: ESY will move to four days per week for four weeks, giving the autism program an extra day. The presenter said scheduling and staffing influenced July timing and building assignments; some elementary students were combined into a single building this year because of construction at Ridgeway.
The presenter credited ESY staff (coordinated this year by Danielle Palmeri) and site administrators at Whiting, MTS, the middle school and high school for organizing programming and trips (including an outing to Field Of Dreams in Toms River). The board was told CPAC has issued a survey tied to ESY that closes Oct. 24; staff said they will review results and consider suggestions for future program design.
Next steps: student government will continue fundraising and publicize events; ESY staff will analyze CPAC survey results and present any recommended changes to the board in future meetings.
