Board to consider updated service-animal policy to align with ADA and state law

The revision broadens the policy from a focus on physical 'facilities' to encompass 'premises' and all district spaces and activities, Speaker 5 said, and adds a form individuals must complete to obtain approval for a service animal on district property.
"We are asking for a first and second read at the September 23 meeting," Speaker 5 said. She said nurses and human-resources staff reviewed the changes and that the revision responded to outdated policy language raised by a community member.
Board members were invited to raise questions before the scheduled readings; Speaker 5 said HR had approved the changes and that the policy applies to any individual with a service animal on district property. No formal vote or amendment was taken at the special meeting; the item was placed on the calendar for the September meeting.
