Ale Alejandra Amaya, a staff member with United Way of San Antonio (transcript: "Gart County"), told the EAST CENTRAL ISD board that United Way has opened an East Central ISD Family Resource Center to bring a range of services into neighborhood campuses.
"A family resource center allows us the opportunity for United Way to be able to hone in all the resources that we have," Amaya said, describing the center as a "one-stop shop" intended to reduce barriers so families can access services where they live.
The center, Amaya said, includes a parent advisory committee at each site composed of parents, caregivers and kinship caregivers who will shape programs and referrals. Amaya credited local partnerships — including the DePelton Children's Center and campus staff across ECISD — and highlighted an early community effort: United Way and partners adopted 90 children across the district to provide holiday gifts.
Amaya urged families to contact school principals or assistant principals to learn about available resources and emphasized that the center is designed and operated with family voices at the center of planning.
The presentation was brief and aimed at informing trustees about United Way's neighborhood-facing model; Amaya described the center as newly launched and said outreach and awareness are ongoing. No formal board action on the resource center was recorded during the meeting.
The district and United Way said they expect to continue rolling out services and to provide additional updates to the board as community events and partnerships expand.
