At its Oct. 13 meeting, the Eagle Pass ISD Board of Trustees approved a slate of administrative and procurement actions and several legal settlements following a closed session.
Trustees adopted Resolution 2025-26-06 to nominate three candidates to the Maverick County Appraisal District board; the motion to renominate the same three members was moved by Trustee Hilda Martinez and passed. The board approved submitting low-attendance day waivers to the Texas Education Agency for campuses identified in discussion (named in the record as Armando Serna, Seguin, Class and Gallelo) after recent threats. Superintendent Mijares explained the waiver process: waivers are applied for after an incident, may be used when attendance deviates 10% from the prior year and may require making up operational minutes if short.
Trustees approved soliciting proposals (RFQ/RFP) for an independent audit of the district's special education program to identify improvements. The board also approved the purchase of indoor and outdoor sports surfaces from Headless Construction Inc. under BuyBoard contract 737-24 for CC Wynne High School's synthetic turf football field, delegating final payment authority to the superintendent and noting the project was budgeted and on BuyBoard to avoid local bids.
Consent items 1 through 10 were approved as a block. After a closed session under Texas Government Code chapters 551.071 and 551.074 to discuss personnel and litigation, the board returned to open session and approved hiring to fill vacancies, approved term contracts and approved multiple settlements in cases listed on the agenda. Motions on closed-session items were recorded as moved and seconded and passed on the record; detailed roll-call vote tallies were not recorded in the published transcript.
Superintendent Mijares closed the meeting by highlighting upcoming community events including homecoming parades and football games and a Texas Red Ribbon campaign calendar included in the packet. The board adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
