Danville approves application for $250,000 USDOT planning grant to produce countywide transportation plan

The Danville City Commission on Sept. 22 authorized staff to apply for a USDOT Rural Planning Assistance grant with a minimum request of $250,000 and no local match. City staff said the grant would fund a countywide transportation plan developed by a consultant with robust public outreach and would help prepare the transportation chapter of the next comprehensive plan.
Josh Morgan, presenting the item, told commissioners the $250,000 would allow a ‘‘pretty robust plan’’ that could support revisions to subdivision regulations, project profiles and future grant applications. Staff said the application deadline is Oct. 8 and asked for commission approval to submit the application.
Commissioners approved the motion by voice vote. The authorization permits staff to prepare and submit the application; award and acceptance of funds will be subject to grant terms.
Next steps: Planning and EDA staff will finalize the application materials before the Oct. 8 deadline and will report back to the commission on award status if successful.
