Palos Park council approves payments, authorizes 2025 paving bids and a new tractor

The Palos Park Village Council on Aug. 11 approved routine consent items, authorized bids for this year’s roadway paving program and approved several payments and equipment purchases.
The consent agenda included membership dues to the Southwest Conference of Mayors ($7,725), a temporary liquor license for Durbin's Pizza for the Aug. 21 Concert on the Green, multiple emergency repair invoices to Ares Construction (including amounts of $13,429.20, $11,488.37 and $12,647.69), a warrant list dated July 28, 2025, for $341,020.88, a warrant list dated Aug. 11, 2025, for $120,403.61 and a supplemental warrant for manual checks, payroll and recurring transfers totaling $588,612.80. The consent agenda passed on a roll call vote with all present members voting yes.
Under public works, Commissioners approved Invoice No. 2 for the 120 Third Street water main relocation project, submitted by Ares Construction, in the amount of $257,502.60. The council also authorized staff to advertise bids for the 2025 roadway paving program, with an estimated project cost of about $967,482.50 to be funded with Rebuild Illinois bond funds, Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds and the village half-percent sales tax. The council approved the purchase of a replacement tractor and side cutting mower from Russo Power Equipment (Schiller Park) — a Kubota M4 — for $65,788.92, citing that the current unit was frequently breaking down. Commissioners indicated public works obtained three quotes and recommended the Russo bid.
Other updates included recreation announcements (Concert on the Green Aug. 21; Autumn in the Park and parade Sept. 20; Spooky Shuffle Oct. 18), a development code public meeting planned for Sept. 3, 2025, and a police activity report covering June 30–July 13 that listed calls for service, traffic stops and community outreach events. There were no public comments during the meeting.
