Village Hills Park Council approves two public-works contracts, hears police and recreation reports

The Village Hills Park Council on Sept. 8 approved several routine financial items and two public-works contracts, heard police and recreation reports and announced a slate of upcoming community meetings and events.
The council approved the consent agenda, which included a United We Care raffle license for an Oct. 2 charity event at Hill Golf and Country Club, warrant-list payments dated Sept. 8 totaling $178,735.46 and supplemental payments (manual checks, payroll and recurring wires) totaling $527,676.11.
In public works business, the council approved a proposal from Comfort Zone Heating and Cooling to replace a failed compressor serving the police-side air system at the campus center. Staff recommended the replacement at a proposed cost of $6,895.
The council also approved an upgrade to the Romingo Road sanitary sewer lift station, accepting a Flow Technics/Dave Cotton Electric proposal for $45,330.05. The work described by staff includes a new control cabinet and controls, cellular connectivity to the station, bypass pumping as needed and related piping and electronic connections. Staff noted that a separate, higher proposal had been received from Metropolitan Industries at $74,044.05 and recommended the lower bid.
Recreation staff outlined fall programming, including the "Autumn in the Park" weekend with a parade at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20 and Village Green activities, an Oak-toberfest event Oct. 13 and a Spooky Shuffle on Oct. 18 at Swallow Cliff. Residents were given a contact number (708-671-3760) and registration details for several events.
The public safety report covered Davis Park Police Department activity for Aug. 20–Sept. 7. The department recorded roughly 1,993 calls for service, citizen-assist responses, case and accident reports, traffic enforcement (including traffic stops and moving violations) and multiple adjudication and speeding-ticket figures. Commissioner Palmer also mentioned the Faith and Blue community engagement event and recognized Officer Nico Doria for a public service award from Moraine Valley Community College. The report described parade-related street closures for Sept. 20 (road closures roughly 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.) and recommended alternative routes.
Announcements included a Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on Sept. 10 (two continued cases listed by address), cancellation of the Sept. 18 Plan Commission meeting, a library board meeting Sept. 17 and a "Connect with the Council" session also Sept. 17 at 12:30 p.m. The council promoted a Women in Government panel co-hosted with Kelly Burke on Oct. 13, listing Toni Preckwinkle as the keynote speaker and Tricia Murphy as a panelist; registration was required and lunch provided.
The council opened the citizens' comment period and received no public speakers before a motion to adjourn carried.
