The Downtown Design Review Board approved a proposal to install a 38-square-foot illuminated wall sign for the University of Tennessee facility at the corner of Main and Henley streets.
Staff described the proposed sign as white channel letters with 5-inch returns mounted without a raceway and compatible with Boulevard District signage. Tom Allen of Allen Sign Company confirmed the installation method and said the contractor would reuse existing interior electrical runs and minimize new penetrations in the historic brick where possible.
Board members asked that the applicant provide a dimensioned elevation showing the sign is centered between the arched wall features. The applicant agreed to provide a revised drawing centering the sign. A motion to approve as submitted with the added condition that the sign be centered between the arches carried by the board.
The approval lets the project move forward to permitting; the applicant must submit the drawing showing centering as part of the permit documentation.
