The Victoria City Council approved staff recommendations Sept. 16 to allocate $55,000 in FY26 Child Safety Fund grants to seven nonprofit organizations.
Miss Toden, presenting the committee’s recommendations, said, "we did receive a total of 8 applications totaling a request of a 129,258. We did have a budget allocated a 55,000 and we did recommend that amount to be allocated to 7 of the 8 applications." The recommended allocations were: World for Children $10,000; Boys & Girls Club $7,000; Girl Scouts of South Texas $8,000; Golden Crescent CASA $6,000; Hope of South Texas $8,000; Midcoast Family Services $9,000; and The Gabriel Project $7,000. Prodigy Athletics was not recommended due to misalignment with program initiatives.
Toden described the grants as reimbursement-based with quarterly reimbursement opportunities and said contracts would become effective Oct. 1. She also noted an internal committee review process and that applicants had the chance to appeal; no appeals were filed. During the vote Toden stated, "And I need to recuse myself from voting," and the council recorded one recusal before adopting the allocations.
The council approved the resolution authorizing the awards; staff will draft contracts and monitor compliance under the program’s reimbursement rules.
