Residents urge safer streets and veterans’ home repairs during public comment

During the public comment period at the Bowling Green City Council meeting, two residents highlighted community-led initiatives.
Debbie Thompson, 1003 Chauncey Lane, asked the city and council members to volunteer for the BG Song fall walk audit starting Sept. 14. Thompson described the two-week audit as an effort to observe intersections, crosswalks and traffic patterns to identify pedestrian-safety and accessibility improvements and to inform advocacy with city leaders. ‘‘Anyone interested in volunteering for the walk audit can sign up on the BGSU Serves platform or by sending an email with walk audit in the subject line to bowlinggreensong@gmail.com or contact BG Song directly at (419) 356-3330,’’ she said.
Rose Drain launched a veterans-focused exterior home-repair project, saying the Bowling Green Community Foundation provided a $7,500 grant to support weatherization and safety improvements for veterans who own homes within the city. Drain described partnering organizations (Wood County Veterans Services, BGSU nontraditional and military students office, Raymond Marvin Center) and asked for volunteers, sponsors and donations to help with projects ranging from ramps and steps to tree concerns requiring professional work.
